Welcome to CUEA's Social platform. This document outlines the Terms of Use governing your access to and use of our platform. By accessing or using these services, you agree to comply with and be bound by these terms and conditions. Please read this document carefully before using our platform.

1. Acceptance of Terms

1.1. By accessing or using the CUEA Social platform (hereinafter referred to as "CUEA Space"), you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms of Use, as well as any additional terms, guidelines, or rules that may be posted on the platform from time to time.

1.2. You agree to comply with all applicable rules and regulations,

1.3. If you do not agree with any part of these terms, you must immediately discontinue your use of the platform.

2. Definitions

2.1. "User" refers to any individual who accesses or uses the platform, mostly students.

2.2. "Content" includes but is not limited to text, images, videos, audio files, links, and any other material posted, uploaded, or shared on the platform.

2.3. "University Community" refers to current students, faculty, staff, and officially recognized affiliates of CUEA.

3. User Eligibility

3.1. The platform is primarily intended for use by members of the Catholic University of Eastern Africa. You must be a student and have a valid university email address.

3.2. During special events, we reserve the right to allow guest users to participate, enabling them to share and engage with the experience. This temporary access is granted solely for the duration of the event and may be subject to additional terms and conditions. Anonymous users must still adhere to all the terms.

4. User Accounts

4.1. Account Creation: To access certain features of the platform, you must create an account using your admission number.

4.2. Account Security: You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account and password. You agree to accept responsibility for any and all activities or actions that occur under your account and/or password.

4.3. Unauthorized Use: You must immediately notify CUEA Space’s admin (Contact Information at the bottom) of any unauthorized use of your account or any other breach of security.

4.4. Account Sharing: You may not share your account credentials with any other person or entity. Each account is for a single user only.

4.5. Account Termination: CUEA Space reserves the right to suspend, terminate accounts, remove or edit content that violates our terms.

5. Acceptable Use Policy

5.1. You agree not to use the platform to:

  1. Post, upload, or share any content that is unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, invasive of another's privacy, hateful, or racially, ethnically, or otherwise objectionable.
  2. Impersonate any student or member of staff, or falsely state or otherwise misrepresent your affiliation with a student / staff.
  3. Upload or transmit viruses or any other type of malicious code that will or may be used in any way that will affect the functionality or operation of the platform.
  4. Spam, phish, pharm, pretext, spider, crawl, or scrape any part of the platform.
  5. Interfere with or disrupt the platform in any way.
  6. Engage in any activity that could be considered bullying, stalking, or harassment.
  7. Collect or store personal data about other students/users without their explicit consent.
  8. Use the platform for any activity that breaks any of CUEA’s university rules.

5.2. You agree to use the platform only for its intended purposes as an onilne social space for the University Community.

6. Content Guidelines

6.1. User-Generated Content: You are solely responsible for the content you post on the CUEA Space. By posting content, you represent and warrant that:

  1. Your content neither violates our terms nor the University rules.

6.2. Prohibited Content: The following types of content are expressly prohibited:

  1. Content that promotes illegal activities or violates any laws.
  2. Explicit or pornographic material.
  3. Hate speech or content that promotes discrimination.
  4. Personal attacks or content intended to harass or bully students.
  5. Private or confidential information about other students without their consent.
  6. Content that impersonates others in a misleading or deceptive manner.
  7. Content that the university may deem inappropriate

6.3. Content Removal: CUEA Space reserves the right to remove any content that violates these Terms of Use or is otherwise objectionable, without prior notice.

7. Content Moderation

7.1. Moderation Practices: CUEA Space moderates the posts that you upload to the platform and also has a team of moderators (handpicked students) who reserve the right, but have no obligation, to monitor, edit, or remove any content posted on the platform.

7.2. Reporting Content: Users may report content that they believe violates these Terms of Use. CUEA Space will review reported content and take appropriate action, which may include removal of the content or termination of the student's account.

7.3. Appeals Process: If your content is removed or your account is terminated, you may appeal the decision by contacting us through the designated channels provided in the "Contact Information" section.

8. Intellectual Property Rights

8.1. Platform Ownership: The platform and its original content (excluding user-generated content), features, and functionality ARE AND WILL REMAIN the exclusive property of the CUEA students’ team behind its creation (until a formal agreement is made between its creators and the university), but will operate under the jurisdiction of the Catholic University of Eastern Africa.

8.2. User Content Permission: By posting, uploading, or sharing content on the platform, you grant CUEA Space a non-exclusive, permission to use, modify, publicly perform, publicly display, reproduce, and distribute such content on and through the platform. This permission is revoked when you remove your content from the platform.

8.3. Copyright Infringement: If you believe that any content on the platform infringes upon your copyright (e.g. a student posted art work or designs that belong to another student), please report that post by clicking the flag icon on that post and proceeding with the prompts.

9. Privacy and Data Protection

9.1. Data disclosure: In accordance with our obligations to the university, we reserve the right to disclose any information related to your account upon request from the university administration.

10. Reporting and Enforcement

10.1. Duty to Report: Students have a responsibility to report any violations of these Terms of Use, including but not limited to harassment, hate speech, or illegal activities.

10.2. Cooperation with The University: As earlier stated in this document, CUEA Space is under the jurisdiction of the University and will cooperate with the university’s management/leadership.

11. Termination

11.1. CUEA Space may terminate or suspend your account and bar access to the platform immediately, without prior notice or liability, under our sole discretion or following directives from the univerity authorities, for any reason whatsoever and without limitation, including but not limited to a breach of the Terms.

11.2. If you wish to terminate your account, you may simply discontinue using the platform or contact us to request account deletion.

12. Academic Integrity

12.1. Users must adhere to CUEA's academic integrity policies when using the platform. This includes but is not limited to:

  1. Not using the platform to cheat on assignments or exams.
  2. Not sharing copyrighted course materials without permission.

12.2. Violations of academic integrity policies may result in disciplinary action by the university as they see fit, and CUEA Space will not in anyway be held responsible for the students decitions, in addition to any actions taken regarding the student's platform account.

13.Emergency Situations and Safety

13.1. The platform is not designed for emergency communications. In case of any emergency, immediately contact campus security or local emergency services.

13.2. If you become aware of any content on the platform that suggests an immediate threat to personal safety or public safety, please report it immediately to both platform administrators and appropriate authorities.
